Status Update #1


Hey guys! This is going to be a status update about development on V1.0.3! Sorry if this may seem janky at times; I didn't get the best night's sleep and while I'm writing this, I'm making up what I will say, even though I admittedly should've thought about it before lol. Also, I'll share the changes near the end because there might be people who don't want to know all of the changes V1.0.3 will make.

Development on V1.0.3 is going pretty smooth! Yesterday, my older brother (the developer of the unofficial updates just in case you didn't know) made a prerelease build of the update and requested me to give it to JSP. He's doing this because he doesn't want more and more pre-V1.1 updates, and he made it specifically for JSP to test because 1, JSP is the creator of the original mod, and 2, my brother looks up to him. A minor reason for the prerelease build is the development on V1.0.3 making him a bit tired. He plans to release the build, as well as 32 bit and OS files when V1.0.3 officially releases.

Also, here're some plans my older brother has for some mods while not working on the unofficial updates. After V1.0.3 releases, my brother will make a mod of that update which will essentially function as his sandbox. That means that if he wants to put something in it, then there's nothing from stopping him. In other words, there are no constraints to what he'll put in the mod. Also, after the unofficial updates reach a state in which my brother deems to not need any more updates, he'll start working on a remake of Baldi's Funner Newer School. He'll have a list of constraints and requirements with what to do during development on the remake. They will (primarily at least) consist of what Baldis Son has promised. For example, Principal won't spawn in his office, a spinning Baldi Talk 0005, and no dark stuff. For the lattermost, this technically means that my brother can't add lore whatsoever. He can make lighthearted lore that is not taken seriously.

I also want to share some stuff that's unrelated to the rest of this status update. 3 days ago as of this writing, my older brother went with Mom to Tensuke Market. He told me he got 2 rice balls, one with kelp and the other with mayo tuna, a bottle of a unsweetened yuzu drink, a box of hojicha tea, and a small box of Botan rice candy with an edible inner wrapper. He also wanted some ice cream and seaweed with green tea added, but Mom didn't let him get it, because for the former, it has lots of sugar, and for the latter, she was worried he would be "hyper" even though there was little to no risk of him becoming "hyper" because it was just green tea.

Now, for the changes:

  • Renamed Principal Ban-er to "Principal Banner"!
  • Items spawning in front of vending machines when bought with a Handy Dollar are now closer to the vending machine!
  • You can now get a Handy Dollar from a dollar machine with 4 quarters!
  • Made a section of the credits dedicated to the roles specific to the unofficial updates, alongside other improvements!
  • Removed code relating to the scrapped Endless Mode "time" score system from the original game.
  • Reaching an exit now always plays the "thunk" sound!
  • In Free Run, the music that starts playing after reaching an exit doesn't restart when getting another exit!
  • Sounds like Arts & Crafters' wooooshing and the sound after reaching the 3rd exit in Unfree Run now flow better into their respective looping clips! (Although sometimes, there may be a pause between both clips)
  • Fixed the bug in which pausing while the 3rd exit sound was transitioning into the looping one would immediately finish the transition!
  • Fixed the bug in which Arts & Crafters can bring Baldi into the Schoolhouse if the former catches you in finale mode!
  • Fixed the bug in which you could move, while playing with Playtime, inside Gotta Sweep!
  • Fixed the bug in which moving your mouse while the game is paused and then unpausing would make your rotation change suddenly!
  • Portable tape players no longer have the Doppler effect!
  • The player now properly looks at Principal when they get a detention, and Baldi when Arts & Crafters catches them in finale mode!
  • Reverted Principal's pencil stab not running out during his ban! During V1.0.2's development, my brother imagined Principal canonically temporarily stop existing. However, I asked JSP if Principal disappears like my brother thought or if he is simply teleported outside the school during his ban, and he confirmed that the latter would make more sense to him.
  • Updated the warning screen! It now warns you of the horror elements in the mod, like a warning screen is supposed to do! Previously, it was the same as V1.0, which informed players of a new ending introduced in that version. My brother changed it because 1, the warning screen could make it seem like V1.0.1 or V1.0.2 introduced the new ending, even though neither did, 2, if you wanted to inform people of new content in an update, you inform them on the pages where your mod is hosted, and 3, it didn't warn players of horror elements like a warning screen is supposed to do.
  • Updated the "How To Play" screen to replace the 2nd and 3rd instances of "Baldi" with pronouns, to remove unnecessary repetition.
  • Updated the mode selected screen to make the text consistent with the mod's text capitalization style, and made the Endless Mode description like what was probably originally intended by JSP!
  • Fixed the bug in which the mouse sensitivity bar could be inconsistent when you switched between the normal main menu and the alternative one! This was caused by the game using different game objects for both menus.
  • Other misc. stuff.
  • More refactoring.

I just finished testing the 1.0.3 prerelease 1 build you sent me, and here are 2 bugs I've found so far.

#1: The pause screen's background doesn't cover my entire screen. I think you could easily fix this by setting the pause screen's background image to use the stretch canvas option. The 2nd image shows what I'm talking about.


#2: WD-NoSquee does not work when I try to use it on swinging doors. This could just be because you haven't implemented it yet, but I'm not 100% sure.

#1: That's strange. It covers the whole screen for me.

#2: That's actually not a bug; these builds intentionally don't incorporate the suggestions for the full update because my brother wants to make sure that the already existing stuff is good enough for him to move on to the suggestions.

Also, I thought you would be reporting the bugs in the comments section of the private page where I give you the build. Next time, do so there.

I think the reason the pause screen's coverage is different for you is because I use a computer with a higher screen resolution, which can affect how certain screens are displayed. Also, I would of posted the feedback on the private page, but for some reason it doesn't have any comments section when I go to it.

Oops! I'll go try to activate it! Itch.io shows me that there's a comment section, though.

Also, I applied your suggestion to use the stretch option.

Alright, I just looked, but the comments section still doesn't show up for me. Here is what it looks like on my screen.

I wonder what's causing that bug. I set the comments on, but it's not letting you see the comments. I gave you a link that will give you edit access for the page, so we'll just continue our conversation by editing the text if your admin status doesn't let you see the comment section.
